meet david macomber of shark sugar

We recently came across artist and east coaster David Macomber and instantly connected to his work. We currently have 3 of his limited prints in our shop, but wanted to share a bit more about the artists behind the work. Below is a bit about david and some photos of him doing his thing.

Shark Sugar – Telling the story of surfing through pixels & paintbrushes The Art & Fotography of David Macomber

David was born and raised in New Jersey, where he spent his summers enjoying surfing and the beach and the winters freezing cold. After High School, he quickly made an exodus to warmer weather and enrolled in Brooks College of Design in Long Beach California. While in California, he would spend his mornings surfing and would regularly be late to class. After not graduating, he has spent the last 10 years working as a professional graphic designer. The last 2 years David worked as the lead designer for HyperFlex Wetsuits. He is currently working as a freelance artist and designer (occasionally he can be found cleaning gutters and recycling cans)

The ingredients to his art work are from photos he takes, mixed with a splash (or two) of spray paint and hand drawn lettering. Combining all these elements, his goal has become telling the story of surfing and the life that surrounds it – Retelling those moments in and out of the water. Hopefully sparking the memory of those who lived it or inspiring those who observe it.

the good folks at space gallery recently brought in yet another awesome artist to share with you- kyle durie and her letterpress studio- all housed in a 1982 chevy step van. since i missed it, i thought should share in hopes that many of you could see her at her next stop.

moveable type is a project that kyle has been taking all over the place, sharing her work and giving demonstrations.
